MAINDATA showcases game-changing satellite innovations for DTH and DTT broadcasters at Africacom 2023
Event Report | November 30, 2023
MAINDATA’s CEO, Dusan Statelov, took the central stage of Africacom 2023, the largest telecom gathering of Africa-focused connectivity leaders, held in Cape Town, South Africa from November 13 to 16, 2023. He shared his expertise and vision on how MAINDATA’s innovative media delivery solutions can transform the African TV market and create new opportunities for broadcasters and advertisers. The event was a great opportunity for us to connect with the African TV market and showcase our cutting-edge solutions.
One of the highlights of our participation was the Fireside Chat on Game-changing satellite innovations for DTH and terrestrial TV broadcasters and monetizing content with targeted ads, which took place on November 15 at 12:00 pm. The Fireside Chat was moderated by Chris Green, the Chief Editor of Africa Tech News. Dusan Statelov presented our solutions that address the challenges and opportunities of the African TV market, such as:
- SFN Boost:
a solution that enables Single satellite transmission to both terrestrial TV transmitters and satellite home users, saving over 95% of satellite capacity for each additional DTT stream. This is a game-changing solution for large countries or continents where it is difficult to achieve 100% coverage by terrestrial TV. To reach more rural or distant areas, broadcasters typically use satellite TV, but it is expensive to send the signal twice: once to terrestrial TV transmitters and once to satellite dishes at homes. SFN Boost allows sending the signal only once simultaneously to all terrestrial transmitters and DTH. This saves broadcasters a lot of money and increases TV coverage for a large number of people with no extra cost.
- Single satellite transmission to both terrestrial TV transmitters and satellite home users
- Extends TV availability to areas with low terrestrial TV coverage
- 100% satellite cost savings for satellite broadcast to home users
- Complete nationwide TV services coverage – combats digital divide by giving everyone access to the same content, without exclusion
SFN Boost also allows Regional TV programs insertion directly at terrestrial TV transmitters. This allows broadcasters to avoid the need to transmit national TV content from multiple satellites to every individual region.
Lastly, SFN Boost also provides Regional Ads Insertion in terrestrial SFN TV networks, addressing advertisers’ growing demand for low-cost regional advertisement.
- Dynamic Broadcast:
a solution that enables satellite direct to home broadcasters to get more capacity and better signal for no extra spend by deploying dynamically adjusted TV signal strength according to weather conditions. Dynamic Broadcast guarantees almost 100% interruption free broadcasting, which is critical for premium content, and unlocks new revenue streams by using the existing infrastructure more efficiently. We deploy Dynamic Broadcast platform free of charge to TV broadcasters in return for a fraction of profits achieved by the additional capacity and availability.
- Targeted Ads:
a solution that enables IPTV, VOD and OTT providers to insert targeted ads into their video stream and bypass ad blockers with seamless server-side ad insertion. Ads targeting improves user acceptance of ads and return of investment for advertisers by tailoring ads based on the viewer’s information.
The Fireside Chat was well-attended and received positive feedback from the audience, who asked questions and showed interest in our solutions.
